Federal member for Hunter, Joel Fitzgibbon, was pleased to visit Toronto Swim Centre to congratulate the swimming club on its successful application for a $5,264 grant under the Hunter Stronger Communities Program that has enabled the purchase of the new equipment.
The new system is a valuable asset to the club which will complement and enhance its existing electronic starting equipment while improving the clarity of race results for the benefit of competitors, officials and spectators.
The scoreboard will be on show during the club’s popular weekly Friday night club races and will be used at the many primary school swimming carnivals held throughout the year.
“Our fun and inclusive swimming club has the potential to create a healthier and happier Toronto community, especially through providing greater access to the essential and life-enhancing activity of swimming,” Macquarie Shores Swimming Club coach Ben Jenkinson said.

Mr Fitzgibbon congratulated the club on its commitment to promoting an active, healthy lifestyle, particularly to young people, and for teaching so many the vital, lifelong skill of swimming.
“Macquarie Shores Swimming Club has seen generations of swimmers participate over its 20 years in the local community with countless state and national qualifiers,” he said.
“I look forward to many more outstanding results coming from the club and hope this investment of funds benefits all involved into the future.”
The swimming club celebrated its 20th anniversary in a reunion at Toronto Diggers on November 3.
About 90 people attended, including some of the club’s first swimming members, their families, and former committee members.
