Nicholson, racing with 222 Offshore steered his boat to line honours at the weekend alongside the Gold Coast’s Peter McGrath.
Nicholson said he was stoked with how everything went at the weekend.
“It was good. We were trying to break the record but we had one motor that was a bit lazy,” he said of his run.
“Pete is very smiley about it all. I think he liked having all the horse power. It was a lot of fun having the boat jump and leap around like it did.”
Nicholson’s boat is from the Gold Coast and he said it was a big effort to get it down to the Hawkesbury, but it was worth it.
“The town is always super supportive, and it is great to come down,” he said.
“It is a fair commitment but it is worth it because of the enthusiasm of the locals.
“Coming up the river there are all these different spots, packed with people waving at you. We don’t want to be rude, but we can’t wave back.”
Nicholson said it was a tough race for his craft, given he usually did offshore racing.
"It is a bit difficult, the boat is very twitchy. Because we're so big we need to work hard to get it around the corners," he said.
"We need to make sure we don't scrape the paint off the sides running into some trees."
Nicholson added that the boat would be on display at the Supercars round in Newcastle this weekend.
Next year it will have a display race at the same fixture.
It was meant to happen this year, Nicholson said, but some hiccups happened and the race was called off for 2017.
