I'm not sure if it's the same bunch of people, because I've never seen the littering taking place.

But on the morning of October 29 I was shocked by the amount of rubbish left behind and not put in a large bin no more than 10 metres away. 

There were so many bottles, cans, cartons, bait packets, plastic bags, and cigarette butts scattered everywhere that I had to clear some rubbish away so that I could fish.

When I finished my fishing session, I cleaned up everyone else’s mess. 

On a concrete area, there were six decent sized tailor and some yellowtail left scattered with pieces cut out of them. There was also a big fillet of tailor which had two large sized 6/0 suicide hooks in the fillet, left sitting on the concrete.

What if a pelican picked up that fillet of tailor? There was also rubbish on the shoulder of Stingaree Point Drive, near the entry into the canal area. 

Please clean up your rubbish before leaving, and take it away with you.

THE new train timetable to be introduced soon by the state government introduces a really poor trial of the faster train concept that people from the Hunter have been hoping to happen for years.

Besides leaving Newcastle Interchange about 5am, there is no stop between Broadmeadow and Morisset, leaving people from either side of Lake Macquarie with a long drive to catch this train, rather than Fassifern or Cardiff.

Then there are four stops on the Central Coast – at Wyong, Tuggerah, Gosford and Woy Woy. 

Two stops would suffice for a faster train. Plus there are unnecessary stops at Hornsby and Epping for a faster Hunter/Central Coast train. The Hunter needs faster trains to Sydney that truly cut more time than this poorly planned attempt that only cuts a matter of minutes and doesn’t take passengers to arrive at Sydney meetings/business activities close to 9am.

We really need a state government that has Hunter transport needs to the forefront.

I NOTE the speed limit on Marconi Road in Morisset is to be reduced from 70kmh to 60kmh (“Marconi Road speed limit coming down to 60kmh”, Lakes Mail, November 2).   What a wonderful idea! However, how will this stop youngsters from driving at 100kmh at night from hitting power poles and trees? Will the police be checking cars for speeding on this road late at night? Or will speed cameras be fitted and monitored?

IT seems we're in a period of time where this direct democracy is in vogue among our elected leaders.  Before this no-doubt brief bubble bursts, may I suggest another question be asked? Should the sale, import or supply of tobacco be outlawed for anyone born after 2000? I'm pretty sure even the smokers among us would get on board.
