Council’s acting community planning manager, Wes Hain, said National Youth Week celebrated the contribution young people made to the community.
“Youth Week is now the largest annual youth participation event in Australia and it’s important that young people in Lake Mac have the opportunity to be part of it,” Mr Hain said.
“We’re inviting community groups to get involved and apply for funding for events and activities for young people aged 12 to 24, to be held during National Youth Week 2018.
“Youth Week aims to give young people a voice to raise awareness of issues and promote ideas from young people in Lake Macquarie. We’re looking for initiatives that involve young people in the design and delivery of events.”
Events and activities that achieve outcomes identified in the Lake Macquarie Youth Strategy, such as improving access to services for young people or ensuring they have the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to public life, will be highly regarded for funding.
Application forms and funding guidelines are available to download at lakemac.com.au/community/young-people/national-youth-week.
Youth Week 2018 will run from April 13 to 22.
Applications close at 5pm on Friday, December 15, 2017.
