The event, to be hosted at the Mingara Recreation Club, is focused on celebrating the “unsung heroes of the community”, Ms McBride said, and believes the jobs that many of them undertake are “demanding, and often there is no respite”.
There’s also a personal note for the Central Coast representative – Ms McBride has spent time caring for her father in the past – and is inviting all members of the community to the conference on December 13.
“Caring for my Dad has helped me understand some of the challenges carers face and the need for more support,” Emma McBride said. “Carers are the unsung heroes in our community.”
“This is my way of giving back to carers on the Coast. This event is for carers to share their experience dealing with day-to-day life. It will bring carers together, to take part in workshops, interactive exhibitions, and access support groups, advocates and government agencies.”
The conference will include workshops from NDIS, Dementia Australia, Carers NSW, Candles Cancer Support Group, Younger Onset Dementia Social Support, Centrelink, My Aged Care, Health Direct Australia and more. Presenters who are also attending include The Wholesome Collective, and members of the Dementia-Friendly Kiama project.
Emma McBride’s office is requesting interested members of the public RSVP either online at emmamcbride.com.au or on 43530127.
