Her ink-on-paper creations explore the imagination of a child, complete with imaginary friends.
“Some of these are based on a few of my childhood memories,” Ms Sylvester said.
“I grew up on a farm, and we’d camp out and sit around a fire, and I’m exploring how magical that can feel when you’re a kid.”
Ms Sylvester is one of 17 students from Avondale College of Higher Education who will exhibit their work in the annual Creative Collective exhibition which opens next Thursday, November 16, and runs to December 10.
The exhibition is a showcase of some of the best works from the college’s studio and design classes.
“The exhibition changes every year, but this is the largest group we’ve had,” Ms Sylvester said.
Up to 100 items are expected to be on show over the three-week exhibition period.
Exhibition convener and fellow student, Julian Pilgrim, said there would be paintings, sculptures, drawings, digital art, installations, interactive works, and textile pieces.
“There really is a lot of diversity there,” he said.
Ms Sylvester said the exhibition would offer something for everyone’s taste.
The artworks will be displayed in several rooms at the college, providing visitors with a chance to go exploring.
Ms Sylvester said her works would be displayed in a small space illuminated by a night light.
“I’m trying to put the audience in the headspace of getting ready for a bedtime story,” she said.
The exhibition’s opening function is at 6pm on November 16, in the Joanne Felk Gallery Lower Auditorium, at the Cooranbong college.
The exhibition will then be open from 10am to 4pm, Monday to Thursday, until December 10.
