Mayor Kay Fraser said the draft Lake Macquarie Parking Strategy was a plan to help “strike the right balance between convenience and economic competitiveness” in town centres.
She said it aimed to bring “consistency and fairness” to parking across the city.
A report to council’s meeting on Monday night said in order to maintain parking occupancy close to the desired rate of 85 per cent, a core set of measures had been developed.
The draft strategy recommends that these measures be implemented in the following order.-
- time restrictions;
- in-ground parking sensors;
- demand-based paid parking;
- variations in the price of parking; and
- construction of shared parking facilities.
The draft strategy will be on exhibition for 42 days.
