Lake Macquarie City Council’s sustainability manager, Alice Howe, said the Living Smart Festival was all about encouraging visitors to adopt sustainable practices in their everyday lives.
“For many of us, sustainability starts at home, through simple initiatives like reducing household waste, conserving power and water, or growing our own fresh produce,” Dr Howe said.
“These are all fantastic things to do, but they are really just the tip of the iceberg when you consider all the steps we can take around the home to help protect the environment.
“This year’s Living Smart Festival will feature workshops, demonstrations, displays and stalls on a wide array of sustainable house and garden topics such as backyard bee keeping, urban farming, and food forests, solar technology, worm farms and more.”
