The prize will be presented as part of the annual exhibition of students’ works at the school, in Booragul, on Tuesday night, August 29.
“The ArchiPaul Prize and Art Exhibition represents the strong arts culture that exists within our school,” creative arts and languages teacher, Sarah Adams, said.
“The ArchiPaul Prize itself has been awarded for the past 20 years and is a well-respected honour within our community.”
The night will include an exhibition of art works created by years 7 to 12 visual arts and visual design classes, with a particular focus on portraiture.
“There will be over 500 works to view, including painting, photography, street art, skateboards, printmaking and sculpture,” Miss Adams said.
The exhibition is always an entertaining and engaging event, she said.
“Each work represents a student’s experience in using the visual arts to explore self and the world around them. Each work tells a story and journey in an individual’s practice,” she said.
A highlight of the exhibition is the works by final-year students.
“We also showcase our year 12 body of works which are always technically and conceptually exceptional, representing for many the pinnacle of their practice,” Miss Adams said.
“We are consistently impressed by the works created by all our students and, of course, incredibly proud.”
The evening will culminate in the presentation of awards to the 2017 ArchiPaul winner, and Art Exhibition winner.
Commendation awards will also be presented.
While visual arts are the focus of the evening, the event also enables the school to showcase the skills of other students.
“There will be entertainment provided by our music students, and catering provided by our senior hospitality classes,” Miss Adams said.
There will also be an exhibition of design and technology major projects, and industrial tech timber HSC works from 6pm in the industrial tech rooms.
The ArchiPaul exhibition opens at 7pm. Tickets cost $12 (family), $5 (adult) and $2 (children).
