Children at St John Vianney Primary School, in Morisset, were treated to the first of three clinics to be hosted by the cricketers on consecutive Friday afternoons.
The children were introduced to a series of games and activities designed to hone the fundamental skills of the sport – throwing at a target, and hitting and catching a ball.
They then moved onto the grassed area of the playground for some quickfire games of cricket.
“It’s all about having fun,” cricket club president Aaron Gray.
“It’s about encouraging the kids to enjoy themselves.”
This Friday, the cricketers will return to the school with a special guest.
“The second week of the progam is of particular interest as it's a predominantly girls’ group, and we have secured assistance from Cricket NSW who will send a female cricket development officer to assist us in the session,” Gray said.
There are hopes to establish under-12 and under-16 girls cricket teams in the district, he said.
“August is the month for junior registrations and we are particularly keen to recruit a girls team or two,” Gray said. The cricket club is available to visit other schools in the area.
