The music media has been ablaze with speculation on Tuesday that the legendary Paul McCartney is set to finally tour Australia again in November and December.
McCartney hasn’t performed in Australia since the 1993 New World tour and scrapped a scheduled run of shows in 2002, due to the Bali Bombings.
Industry sources have reportedly said McCartney will perform at Melbourne’s AAMI Park, but Pokolbin’s Hope Estate would certainly be capable of hosting the global megastar.
Hope Estate has a proven track record of delivering the world’s biggest musical acts. In recent years McCartney’s ‘60s contemporaries The Rolling Stones and The Who, plus other luminaries like Bruce Springsteen, The Eagles and Elton John have all graced its Hunter vineyard stage.
Despite being 74 years old McCartney remains one of rock’n’roll’s biggest touring acts and a polished performer. Last year he finished 12th on the list of highest-grossing artists in the world with $US 56.5 million.
In the 1960s McCartney formed arguably the greatest songwriting partnership in musical history with John Lennon, which led The Beatles to unrivalled success, through countless hits and era-defining records like Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band and Abbey Road.
Fingers crossed, Macca comes our way.
