The designs feature council’s logo and reflect the beach, lake, rainforest, bushland, and sea creatures of Lake Macquarie.
The artwork will also act as a deterrent for graffiti vandalism.
Council’s mechanical, depot and supply manager, Mick Gray, said branding the vans with eye-catching designs would help the community to recognise the important work council work crews carry out across the city every day.
“When a resident passes one of our worksites and sees council’s logo on one of our vans, they can be proud of the services we provide to the community,” Mr Gray said.
Cultural services manager Jacqui Hemsley said public art contributed to the vibrancy of the city.
“Keo’s appealing designs help communicate a sense of community pride and identity,” Ms Hemsley said.
“By commissioning a local artist to carry out this work, we’re also showing the wider Lake Macquarie community that council values creativity.”
The painting of the five worksite caravans took 13 days to complete and involved 60 cans of spray paint used over an area of 60 square metres.
