Now, each of the three storeys of Anglican Care’s modern $39 million facility is also getting splashes of that resort-like style.
Paul Andrews, one of Newcastle’s premier landscape artists, has been awarded a significant contract to produce 94 works of art for the building.
Mr Andrews was commissioned to bring the hallways and common areas to life and, through his artwork, give the residents a sense of familiarity and belonging.
The paintings depict iconic Newcastle and Lake Macquarie locations and scenes, through the use of soft tones and water colours.
Mr Andrews said he was thrilled to be awarded the contract.
“To be commissioned for such a large volume of work in the Hunter region was humbling,” Mr Andrews said.
“Obviously these types of contracts don’t come along every day, so it was a great feeling to be awarded the work and to know that it brings such purpose and meaning to the people who see my paintings each day. That’s ultimately what every artist sets out to achieve.”
Anglican Care’s chief executive officer Colin Osborne said Mr Andrews’ artistic style and love of water was a perfect fit for the facility.
“Paul’s artworks perfectly reflect the beauty of Lake Macquarie, Newcastle and surrounds and are the topic of many conversations amongst our residents. He has certainly fulfilled the brief well beyond even our expectations,” Mr Osborne said.
Mr Andrews said he hoped his works continued to create a sense of wellness and happiness among residents.
“The idea of someone in their senior years reflecting on their life through my artwork is incredibly special,” Mr Andrews said.
Kilpatrick Court is Anglican Care’s signature facility and provides 147 beds for residents with varying degrees of health and care needs. The complex opened late last year and will be formally commissioned next month.
Anglican Care is also preparing plans to build retirement living units adjacent to Kilpatrick Court, on Brighton Avenue.
