The Member for Hunter hosted the forum to provide information to seniors in response to calls for help regarding changes to the age pension assets test, scams, residential aged care arrangements, and telecommunications queries.
Guest speakers at the event included a crime prevention officer, representatives from the Department of Health and Human Services who spoke about My Aged Care, and Centrelink services, respectively, and local solicitor Marlie Caban.
The format allowed locals to connect face-to-face with government departments, take part in question and answer sessions, and ask questions of Mr Fitzgibbon about federal government issues.
“It’s for government to ensure people have a decent retirement income, access to good health care and a range of retirement living choices,” Mr Fitzgibbon said.
“But my seniors’ forums help people maximise their wellbeing and lifestyle outcomes by helping them make the right decisions on a whole range of matters.”
More seniors forums are planned for different locations in the Hunter electorate later in the year.
Details would be announced closer to the events, a spokesperson for Mr Fitzgibbon said.
