The NSW Surf Live Saving Championships continue along the state’s coastline – from the South Coast to Sydney’s Northern Beaches, the Hunter and far North Coast.
EARLIER:
The NSW Surf Life Saving Championships are underway at Blacksmiths Beach.
Action began on Friday, with over 6000 athletes converging on the Lake Macquarie venue across the next 10 days.
The annual state carnival starts with juniors (March 3-5), follows with masters (March 8-9) and wraps up with opens (March 10-12).
“It’s unreal,” Swansea Belmont Surf Life Saving Club president Graham Burge said.
“Everyone proudly professes that we have the state’s best coming here to our beach.”
The competition was last held at Swansea Belmont in 2010, when Manly won the first of seven straight junior titles. Most finals will take place on Sunday.
