The council is now inviting feedback from the community on the draft Belmont Sports Fields Master Plan.
Council’s community planning manager, John Ferguson, said the draft plan sets out a vision for the future development and usability of sporting facilities at Belmont.
“Council is committed to providing modern sporting facilities that support the needs of our growing community,” Mr Ferguson said.
“The draft Belmont Sports Fields Master Plan details a proposal for a multi-functional sporting precinct suitable for regional and state competitions, including large-scale sports carnivals, while providing improved sporting facilities for local competitions.
“The addition of a multi-functional sporting precinct at Belmont will not only help us to nurture local talent but will stimulate the local economy and provide multiple sporting opportunities for Lake Macquarie City and the wider Hunter region.”
The draft plan includes the existing sporting facilities at Cahill Oval, Barton Field, Les Miller Field and Lumsdon Field, and incorporates car parking at Molly Smith Netball Courts and Belmont Tennis Courts.
It details proposed works including a purpose-built rectangular field with grandstand, new amenities buildings, improved playing surfaces, training facilities, formalising car parking and construction of pedestrian accesses.
