“In 1976, the first Probus club in Australia was established at Hunters Hill and so this year marks the 40th anniversary of Probus in Australia,” Morisset Men’s Probus Club member Ron Bracken said.
“Australian Probus is a part of Probus South Pacific Limited, which has now grown to over 1900 clubs and 146,000 members.”
Probus is a community service activity of Rotary clubs.
It is an association for active members of the community, and for those no longer working full time.
Its basic purpose is to advance intellectual and cultural interests; to promote healthy minds and active bodies through social interaction and activities; and to expand interests and enjoy the fellowship of new friends.
Members enjoy international and domestic travel, daytrip excursions, luncheons and opportunities to meet new friends.
“Probus is an association of active members in communities who are predominantly lively retirees,” Mr Bracken said.
The anniversary celebration was well received.
“The occasion was a great success. Members and guests were treated to a lunch followed by a cabaret featuring the outstanding talents of multi-award winner, Michael Montgomery,” Mr Bracken said.
Special guests included Ray Davies, the Rotary District Probus chairman, and Kerry Morrissey, representing Morisset Rotary.
