But as Sylvia Lee got closer to the massive blob washing up on the sand south of Catherine Hill Bay on Friday, she quickly released this was real.
In front of her was a massive jellyfish, estimated at being about a metre in diameter and weighing about 20kg.
“It is just a freak of nature, it’s enormous,’’ Ms Lee, of Swansea, said.
“Who would have thought we could come across this lovely, beautiful big jellyfish.’’
Ms Lee was attempting to get the specimen back to her parked car and, possibly, to experts who may wish to take it away for testing.
