Cyclone Pam blasted across the island in March, destroying many buildings, including schools.
When Hunter Office Supplies owners David and Sharen Griffin saw coverage of the cyclone aftermath on the news, it affected them deeply.
"We'd been to Vanuatu in 2013 for a holiday and we really liked the place and the people," Mrs Griffin said.
"When we saw the news footage after the cyclone, we recognised some of the streets and the places that we'd been to during our time there."
So when members of the Morisset Baptist Church visited Hunter Office Supplies and explained they were co-ordinating a Vanuatu relief appeal, the Griffins were quick to help.
The Griffins selected boxes of a range of stationery items from their shelves to donate, and asked their suppliers to chip in, too.
The response was overwhelming.
"I was expecting a few boxes of supplies to arrive, but the next day a truck turned up with seven pallets of stock," Mrs Griffin said.
"It's all of the stuff that little kids at school need.
"There are exercise books, notepads, pencils and Textas, crayons, magazines, colouring books, rulers, document trays, chalk and waste bins - I couldn't believe it."
When the church members came to collect the goods, they had tears in their eyes and were extremely grateful, she said.
