Cr Harrison presented the medal alongside the NSW Governor David Hurley and ICG president Torsten Rasch.
"Congratulations to Team Szombathely, from Hungary, for taking out gold in the team gymnastics competition, as well as taking out gold and bronze in individual gymnastics events," Cr Harrison said.
"To see the emotion in the medal winners' faces was so special."
Across Lake Macquarie athletes from around the world poured their heart and soul into their sports.
Some 1500 athletes from more than 80 cities and 30 countries competed in athletics, gymnastics, swimming, golf, sailing, football and water polo.
While the competition was fierce on the field, off the field the athletes were all smiles and laughter - regardless of language barriers.
"It has been an exciting competition and all of the athletes are having a great time, making lifelong friends and enjoying their sports," Cr Harrison said.
The games closing ceremony was held last night.
Athletes are due to leave Lake Macquarie today.
