Wangi Library Knitting Group has been hosting the Wednesday afternoon sessions for the year 5 and 6 children.
Group founder Chris Langshaw said the children were patient and interested from the outset.
While the creation of a knitted item was the ultimate goal for every knitter, there were spin-off benefits, too.
Ms Langshaw said the repetitive nature of knitting made it calming and good for stress relief.
"For that reason our male soldiers in Afghanistan have been knitting between missions," she said.
So if it's good enough for the men in our army, the boys at the school figured it was worth a try. Year 6 student Mitchell Mulroy, 12, said children at other schools might be surprised to learn that kids at Wangi Wangi were knitting.
"It might sound boring, but it's turned out to be fun when you get into it," he said.
Wangi Library Knitting Group's Ben Pogson had proved an excellent tutor for the boys.
"We thought it was very good for the kids to see a man knitting," Ms Langshaw said.
Teachers at the school noted the knitting classes had improved the concentration, fine motor skills and patience of some children.
