A bumper crowd made for an electric atmosphere at Dora Creek Oval, and it may have impacted on the discipline of players from both sides as evidenced by a hefty penalty count.
Dora Creek winger Michael Mctegg said despite the penalty count it was one of the best Charity Shield games seen in years.
"Both sides played some outstanding football, and the defence was dominant at times," Mctegg said.
Morisset captain-coach Rod Bird agreed.
"It was quite a tough game, but played in a really good spirit," he said.
New Dora Creek recruits Jason and Dean Ferris were impressive, as was lock Brock Harmer.
But it was Morisset fullback Mitch Kauffman who won the Bob Curtis Medal for man of the match.
"Mitch was a standout," Bird said.
"It was a Billy Slater-like performance.
"He was everywhere. He was jumping over the top of blokes to catch bombs, his support play was great, his defence was strong, and he made good metres from dummy half."
He was well supported by second-rower James Deaves, prop Brenton Robertson and new halfback Caleb Chand.
The win extends Dora Creek's margin to 11-3 over Morisset in the annual battle for the Scott Nicholls Memorial Shield.
