The family of a model who plunged to her death from the 12th floor of a luxury apartment block have been left "distraught" after the inquest into her death was adjourned.
Sahar Daftary, 23, from Brentford, London, a former Face of Asia model winner, died in the fall from the balcony of her former boyfriend's £800,000 ($780,000) apartment at the NV Buildings in Salford Quays, Greater Manchester, about 9pm on Saturday, December 20th, 2008.
She had travelled to Manchester earlier that day to take part in a fashion show and gone to the flat of property developer Rashid Jamil, to collect belongings after they split up earlier that year.
The Manchester businessman and father-of-two was already married to another woman when his friendship began with Miss Daftary, a finance and accounting student at Thames Valley University.
Mr Rashid was initially questioned by police, bailed and released without charge following a police investigation into Miss Daftary's death, which left him "devastated" his solicitor said at the time.
Police inquiries suggested the incident was either a tragic accident - or Miss Daftary simply committed suicide by jumping from the 12th-floor balcony.
Miss Daftary's mother, Anisa, 57, and sister Mariam, 32, were due to give evidence during the five-day inquest scheduled to begin at Bolton Coroner's Court on Monday, but the hearing was postponed on Friday afternoon.
Richard Slade, solicitor for the Daftary family, said after legal papers were served to the coroner's court, Greater Manchester Police asked the court to be represented at the hearing as an "interested party".
It meant the inquest had to be adjourned despite objections from Miss Daftary's family, according to Mr Slade.
He said: "The family are very concerned. It is already three years since her death. It is an extraordinary state of affairs. The family is distraught."
