NOBODY was more upset than sisters Cec van der Kamp and Em Palmer to learn that two popular Christmas carol events in Morisset had been cancelled this year.

That’s because the sisters, who perform together as the duo The Rough Diamonds, had grown fond of performing at both events.
“We’ve enjoyed performing at the local Christmas carols events in Morisset for the past decade and were sad to learn that both the Southlakes Christmas Spectacular and the Salvos Christmas Carols were not going ahead this year,” Cec said.
So they set about righting that wrong.
“We decided to get some of our friends together and host The Rough Diamonds and Friends Christmas Carols and Community Showcase.”
The family event will be held at Morisset Masonic Hall this Sunday, November 26, from 5pm to 8pm.
“We know it won't be as big and exciting as the usual Christmas events, and there won't be any fireworks… but we promise an evening of music, friendship and fun,” Cec said.
The sisters will sing a set of their favourite covers and original songs with a few Christmas favourites thrown.
“One that we’ll be performing is our all-time favourite Christmas carol, O Holy Night,” Cec said.
“There's something that grabs us with this song. Its meaning and haunting melody give us goosebumps. We love it!”
Em said Christmas had always been about spending time with family and being grateful for the many blessings in our lives.
“This year we wanted to share our love of Christmas with the community and we hope to have many walk-up artists come along to sing a Christmas song or two, as well,” she said.
Locals families are invited to get along and join in the singing of Christmas favourites such as Silent Night, Aussie Jingle Bells, and Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer.
“We also have free face painting for the kids and we hear that the big man in red may also pay us a visit,” Cec said.
Entry will cost just $5 for everyone aged 15 years or older.
Children younger than 15 will be admitted free.
There will be a sausage sizzle, drinks, and snacks available to purchase for $2 each, Em said.
“It will be a fantastic evening full of fun for the whole family.”
Meanwhile, The Rough Diamonds will be special guests at Central Coast Country Music Club’s Christmas party, at Club Toukley, on December 17.
The girls have also volunteered to perform on Christmas Day at the Southlakes Carers Christmas lunch, in Morisset.
The Rough Diamonds also host a monthly variety show at Morisset Masonic Hall. Details are on their Facebook page: facebook.com/theroughdiamonds.TRD
