PCYC (Police Citizens Youth Clubs) NSW has been named a provider under the state government’s Active Kids Rebate Program which will begin in January.
It means parents can enjoy handy savings on the cost of their child’s participation in sports including gymnastics, netball and basketball at Morisset PCYC.
The program will allow eligible recipients to receive a $100 voucher that can be redeemed towards the payment of sport and recreation membership or participation fees.
The rebates will be available to children in NSW up to the age of 18 enrolled in school from kindergarten to year 12.
Morisset PCYC manager Rosmairi Dawson said gymnastics, futsal, netball and basketball were among the activities the vouchers could be used for.
“The Active Kids Rebate Program is a great way to encourage kids into an active lifestyle and is the first time sport has been subsidised for every school child,” Ms Dawson said.
“As much as parents would like to help their kids experience a range of sports, unfortunately the costs of registration can be prohibitive for some families. The Active Kids Rebate Program will change that for many families and kids will be able to either play the sport they have always loved or experience new sports that otherwise may have been out of reach.
“The PCYC mission is to get young people active. Having a local club in Morisset has seen many kids able to access a range of sports and activities locally.
“As families living in the Morisset district, we have all experienced having to drive quite long distances to access sporting programs for our kids. The PCYC Morisset club was established to provide sporting activities to our local area that were not available without that extra travel.”
Term 1 activities at Morisset PCYC in 2018 begin on February 5, the second week after the children return to school.
The Active Kids Rebate Program aims to increase participation of children in sport and active recreation and thereby reduce the prevalence of overweight childhood, and children with obesity.
More than 100 activities are available in PCYC clubs throughout NSW and the rebate can be used for programs of at least eight weeks’ duration and be applied to registration, participation and membership fees, and equipment or uniforms that are included as part of those fees.
