The tournament has attracted teams from as far south as Woy Woy, and north to Karuah.
Southlakes Junior Rugby League Club, at Dora Creek, will be well represented.
“In fact, Southlakes will be the only club that is fielding teams in all the age divisions,” Roosters president and girls’ under-16s coach, Troy Agar, said.
The series will be contested in under-14s, -16s, -18s and open age.
It will be played over six consecutive Saturdays, starting at Berkeley Vale on November 11.
“Our girls started training about three weeks ago. Last year we had about 25 girls. This year, we’re up to 50 already,” Mr Agar said.
Girls were previously prevented from playing full-contact rugby league once they reached age 12. But with the growing popularity of the women’s game, more opportunities are being made for girls to play.
The Central Coast-Hunter Women’s Nines was being launched as a pathway for girls to the Newcastle Knights’ women’s team, Mr Agar said.
The Southlakes girls train on Tuesdays and Fridays, at the Dora Creek Workers Club field, from 6pm. New players are welcome to give the game a try.
