The 26-year-old from Nords Wharf missed the penultimate event, held in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina over the weekend, after injuring her knee at training.
In her absence, Mexico’s Adriana Jimenez cut Iffland’s lead in the title race to 60 points.
Jimenez could have made it even tighter except for a costly last dive in Mostar, which left her in fourth place, behind the event winner Cesilie Carlton, of America.
Iffland, the defending Red Bull title-holder and also the FINA world champion, had to be loaded onto a stretcher in the water and lifted into the recovery boat in obvious distress, after landing awkwardly from a height of 21 metres. A statement by Australian company who promote the series said Iffland’s injury “is not of major concern and she is doing well both physically and mentally”.
It added that she would require “medical assessment before getting the all clear” for the final round, which takes place in Lago Ranco, Chile, on October 21.
