Wyong Musical Theatre Company’s production of Ian Fleming’s rollicking tale will feature Simon Castle as the eccentric inventor Caracticus Potts. 

Castle has performed in a number of lead roles, including the dual role of Jekyll and Hyde, Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar and most recently Dancario in Carmen.

“With his comic timing and can-do team spirit, Simon is an excellent leader of our Chitty team,” WMTC’s Annette Garvey said.

Truly Scrumptious, the show’s female lead, is played by classically trained soprano Hannah Greenshields.

“Hannah starred alongside Simon in Carmen and although Chitty is her first musical theatre role you would never pick it. Hannah has won numerous singing competitions.”

The Potts children (Jeremy and Jemima) have been double cast, with Chloe McWilliam, Callum Hobson, Edana Bauers and Jack Fryer sharing the roles.

And in the role of Grandpa Potts WMTC welcomes veteran performer Peter Hellier back onto the stage.

“Peter has worked in the theatre professionally all around the world and we are lucky to have him,” Ms Garvey said. 

The show’s Vulgarian spies are played by the Sturgess brothers, Jamie and Harrison, whose comic timing has had the cast in stitches.

The Baron and Baroness, meanwhile, are played by Duane Shore and Kathryn Peterson.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang became a much-loved 1968 film, and then a surprise hit as a stage musical on Broadway.

Its score by Richard and Robert Sherman includes the songs Truly Scrumptious, Toot Sweets, Hushabye Mountain and, of course, the Oscar-nominated title song.

The show follows the fantastic adventures of a magical flying car.

It opens this Friday night, September 22, at 7.30pm, with eight performances - including Saturday and midweek matinees - and finishes on Saturday, September 30.
