Lake Macquarie City Council is asking residents to look into their crystal balls and think about the sort of city they want to be living in, come 2050.
Better footpaths and cycleways, more transport options, apartment living, a diversified economy and vibrant town centres are some of the ideas up for discussion but we want to cast a wide net and hear from our community about all the things that are important to them.
Council has already gathered from consultation over the past year a bank of knowledge about our community’s aspirations and expectations for the future.
Now, we are going back to the community with our Lake Mac 2050 engagement campaign to further refine that vision.
The feedback we receive will help us create a land-use plan to take us into the middle of the century.
We will use the information to develop directions for the future of housing, transport, recreation, the environment and the economy in Lake Mac.
How can you get involved?
Council staff have created some futuristic visions on our website of what Lake Mac 2050 might look like.
There is also a video that provides a glimpse into the future.
If you are interested in helping to shape the future of Lake Macquarie, I encourage you to jump onto the web portal at shape.lakemac.com.au/LM2050 to have a look at the interactive map and view the video.
You can then submit your comments and ideas to let us know if we are on the right track.
For those who prefer face-to-face consultation, there will be opportunities to talk to staff about the project and provide feedback in person at the following pop-up stalls over the next month.
- Toronto Lions Markets, September 17;
- Living Smart Festival at Speers Point, September 23;
- Swansea Markets, September 23;
- Morisset Markets, October 7.
Consultation is open until October 20, 2017.
Council will then develop the Lake Macquarie City 2050 Land Use Strategy and place it on exhibition in mid-2018, for final community feedback.
