Taylor, now a Channel Nine commentator, will interview former internationals including Trevor Chappell, Greg Matthews, Wayne Phillips and Murray Bennett on stage at Toronto Workers Club.

The function – A night with Dutchy - Cricket's Gentleman’ – has been organised by Holland’s friends as the former Test leg-spin bowler battles brain cancer.

Proceeds from the night will go towards Holland's treatment for brain cancer and to the Mark Hughes Foundation.

Holland played 11 Tests matches for Australia, taking 34 wickets at an average of 39.76.

In the Test series against the mighty West Indies in 1984-85, Holland became an unlikely national hero when he spun Australia to victory in the final Test at Sydney.

Holland claimed 6-54 and 4-90 as the Aussies cruised to a shock win by an innings and 55 runs.

Earlier in the series, Holland, 38, became the oldest Australian debutante in 50 years. He had been working as a surveyor for Lake Macquarie City Council at the time of his debut Test series.

Long after his first class career had ended, Holland continued to play club cricket with Southern Lakes (now Toronto Workers Cricket Club) into his 50s and 60s.

Club president Aaron Gray said Holland’s dedication to fitness was remarkable.

“Just two years ago, we were playing a second grade game at Ron Hill Oval and Robert came on to field for us,” Gray said.

“We were dominating the game and had six or seven players in the slips, and just two in front of the wicket. One of those was Robert who we had at cover.

“The batsman then hit one pretty firmly and Robert, aged 69, scampered to his right and did a full-on dive.

“He was parallel to the ground and at full stretch and took the catch.

“When I’m 69, I just hope that I can walk!” 

Tickets to the benefit cost $130, including drinks, canapes and live music. The night will feature an auction for two tickets to a day of the SCG Test and a meet-and-greet with the Channel Nine team.
