IT’S a shame Mr Dumbrell of the Morisset Park and District Action Group can’t see the benefits of Mr Johnson’s development instead of his apparent glee the funds might be drying up (“Resort seeks partner”, Lakes Mail, July 20).

Has Mr Dumbrell or his merry band considered that the complex could enhance the area dramatically? That marina berths are near impossible to find? Or that tourism is a great earner for local business?
Lake Macquarie needs these complexes and, while we’re on the subject, how about dredging part of Lake Eraring to create a marina, in a naturally sheltered area where there is plenty of available space and, where we already have a helicopter in the area.
I front Lake Eraring, and I’ve done my bit for Australian business and community benefits.
Bring the development over here. It would be the best thing for the area.

Club is still on a roll
I WRITE in response to Judith Callan’s letter (“Sad to see the club go”, Lakes Mail, July 20).
I would like to let your readers know that Morisset Hospital Women’s Bowling Club has not closed at all.
We are no longer affiliated with WBNSW but are now a purely social bowling club.
We would like to invite all residents who may be interested in a social game of bowls to come out to the hospital for a game. We have bowls to use for beginners who do not have their own.
No competitions – just a game of bowls whenever you like.
Just phone the club on 4973 2121 so we know you are coming.
Our two life members of the affiliated club are now president Gwen Upcroft and secretary Lorna Vitnell.
On the last Thursday of the month we are going to have a get together with lunch and raffles to continue the friendships forged over many years with our members. We bowl socially on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

What does Rotary do?
EARLIER this month I officially commenced my year as district governor of Rotary District 9670 – an area that stretches from Newcastle to Bourke.
For me, it is an exciting time. An opportunity to contribute to improving our local communities, and ensuring we provide a helping hand to those most in need.
When I tell my friends, family and complete strangers from Lake Macquarie what my next 12 months will look like, they seem excited and supportive. Then they ask “what does Rotary actually do?”
It’s a fair question. People often think Rotary is a group of older men cooking a barbecue at the local markets. The truth is, Rotary is much more than that. It’s about making a difference in the lives of individuals – both in our local communities and across the world.
Rotarians can have such a positive influence in communities right across our region. Locally, Rotary has been instrumental in organising projects such as the Loop the Lake Charity Bike Ride which has raised over $1 million for charities.
We’ve also been involved in developing programs that allow young people the opportunity to increase their understanding and awareness of the world.
