Director community development Morven Cameron will become chief executive of the council after 15 years in local government.
“It is an honour to have been selected to lead this progressive organisation and vibrant city,” Ms Cameron said.
“We have a very solid base on which to progress and move forward.”
“I’m excited about what the future will bring when we all work together, and I thank the Mayor and Councillors, Council staff and the community for their support.”
Mayor Kay Fraser said Ms Cameron’s appointment put Lake Macquarie in good hands.
“She is a highly impressive talent known for her collaborative leadership style and I know firsthand just how passionate she is about ensuring we build on the solid foundation and momentum that Lake Macquarie has enjoyed in recent years,” Cr Fraser said.
Ms Cameron will begin in the role from August 28.
Former general manager Brian Bell announced his retirement in April and finished up last month.
The 68-year-old had spent more than a decade at Lake Macquarie council.
