The two schools have successfully auditioned, and will perform among 15 other Central Coast, Lake Macquarie, and Newcastle schools in the combined choir, combined dance, D’Arts Ensemble and Aboriginal Dance Ensemble.
Last week, at a ceremony in Sydney, Chittaway Bay vocalist Liam Faulkner-Dimond and Wyongah dancer and Hunter School of Performing Arts student Angus Parent would be among the featured artists in this year’s show at Qudos Bank Arena.
Auditions are continuing for other performers including the bands and orchestras and drama ensemble. Schools with representatives will be announced closer to the Schools Spectacular.
The selection process chooses schools and performers that meet the high standards that audiences have grown to know and love.
The Schools Spectacular is a massive co-operative venture as thousands of talented students and their dedicated teachers join with industry professionals to stage a major production.
The concerts showcase the best singing and dancing talent from public schools across NSW.
This year’s Schools Spectacular will be held on on Friday and Saturday, November 24 and 25.
Last year marked an iconic chapter in Schools Spectacular history when their annual arena production broke the Guinness World Record for the largest variety concert in the world at its new home Qudos Bank Arena, Sydney Olympic Park.
Now in its 34th year, the televised extravaganza will star more than 5,700 students including a choir of 2,700 voices, 2,400 dancers; a 100-piece symphony orchestra; world-class stage band, 44 solo singers and 145-featured dancers from public schools across NSW.
The concerts will be hosted by musical director John Foreman.
This year will feature performances of the greatest musical hits of the past and present, including songs by the Beatles, Frank Sinatra, Disney’s Moana, Ariana Grande, Stevie Wonder, Annie Lennox, Bruno Mars and the hottest musical theatre numbers direct from Broadway, including Dear Evan Hansen.
Hundreds of Schools Spectacular participants over the years have gone on to become professional musicians, singers, dancers, designers, producers and musical directors.
Recent alumni have performed in Australian productions of Kinky Boots, Matilda, We Will Rock You, Hairspray, Les Miserables and The Bodyguard, and featured strongly in industry awards such as the ARIAs and Helpmann Awards.
Tickets are now on sale.
There will be performances on Friday, November 24, at 11am and 7.30pm; and on Saturday, November 25, at 1pm and 7pm.
