He is hoping that will be the added edge the Roosters have when they host Maitland on Lake Macquarie Old Boys Day at Macquarie Field on July 23.
Richards began his own football career at Lake Macquarie and said Old Boys Day is a date he looks forward to each season.
“When I was a kid I started my football there,” he said.
“My mum and dad were life members there and I started as a ball boy. I think I ended up playing about 90 first-grade games for the club in the late 80s, early 90s.
“Last time, what I really got out of the day was seeing some of the ex players going into the change room after the game and bonding with the younger players.
“Our young guys really like hearing all of the old stories.”
All former players, committee members and volunteers are invited to get along to Macquarie Field for Old Boys Day. The main game is at 2.30pm.
