Perhaps the worst area in Morisset is the section of Dora Street from Lions Park to Morisset Country Club. It is an absolute disgrace, right in the middle of our town.
Some years ago Southlake Business Chamber and Community Alliance (SBCCA) received a $30,000 grant from council to beautify the area as part of a Work for the Dole Project. No Work for the Dole Participants could be found to staff the project and it lapsed.
About a year ago SBCCA was negotiating with council to return the funds and for council to undertake the project. A change in the committee at SBCCA saw this proposal stall.
So where is the money now and is council still prepared to undertake the works to remove this unsightly mess from the main street of our town?

More on petrol prices
I’VE done a lot of driving around this week for various appointments. As usual, I always check fuel prices.
Wyong, Lake Haven, Sydney and the Hornsby areas all varied between $1.09 and $1.18, but the majority were $1.11 to $1.15 (take 0.04 cents off that for a fuel docket).
Then comes Morisset: one servo hasn’t moved off $1.34 (minus 0.04) and some of the others were $1.37. Now all these prices are for E10 fuel.
Come on, Morisset, it’s time to stop price gouging and give us a much fairer deal. I bet Toronto is heaps cheaper as well.

Why bother voting?
ONCE more, funding for the Lake Macquarie Transport Interchange at Glendale, for the bridge and roadwork, is not forthcoming, even though it was recommended by six state Labor MPs and one Independent MP.
How different would it be if the six Labor MPs were Independent, and the one Independent MP was a party member?
It goes to show that it’s not much use having representatives from a party that have little, if any, chance of being heard, or even being seen, by those who control a government’s purse strings.
Until local people start thinking like politicians, their concerns will never be heard.

Drone invades privacy
I WANT to know why a large drone with a camera was flying up high around Sunlight Parade and Harborne Avenue, in Rathmines, on Wednesday, May 24, between 3.30 and 3.50pm.
This felt quite invasive knowing we were inside our house and could have been filmed. It was an invasion of privacy. Also, what was concerning is that it was around the time kids got off school buses and walked to their homes.
We have a right to our privacy. If anyone knows anything about it please share the information so this never happens again.

Keep is short and sweet
AT the risk of sounding like a pompous so and so, can I suggest letter writers to the Lakes Mail keep their tyrannical condescension to three paragraphs or less?
Writing in to the local paper should be about a bit of fun, and not an abridged war and peace (never read it). If you think you can run the country better or have a gripe that is unique to you, consider that you may just be a whinger…
