The opposition, however, has repeated its call for an independent review of the way people are being moved from Stockton and other large residential centres into group homes.
“With two former Stockton Centre residents dead and one seriously ill, we have serious concerns that the processes are inadequate and the decisions made, have been irresponsible,” Port Stephens MP Kate Washington said on Sunday.
A government spokesperson said there was positive feedback from those who had moved into group homes.
“Some people with disability are now having regular contact with their families and enjoying privacy and dignity without having to share bathrooms with up to ten other people or manage the stress of living with up to 20 residents,” the spokesperson said.
