It’s part of the statewide open day for Fire and Rescue NSW stations.
Morisset and Wangi Wangi are among the local stations throwing open their doors to the community from 10am to 2pm.
And both will be demonstrating road crash rescue techniques.
Retained firefighter Daniel Woods said the simulated road crash rescue would be a feature of the Morisset station’s activities.
“At Morisset we will be simulating a road accident, where the public will get to have a behind-the-scenes look at what we do at a ‘persons trapped’ accident, and it will also give them an idea of why it takes so long to clear an accident scene,” Mr Woods said.
Cars used in the station’s training exercises were donated by Budgewoi Wreckers, he said.
“Kids can come and check out the fire trucks and also be able to use one of our firefighting hoses to shoot water.”
At Wangi Wangi, retained firefighter and acting deputy captain Ross Murdoch said a busy day of free activities was planned.
“We’ll be having firefighting demonstrations and skill displays, including in road crash rescue techniques,” Mr Murdoch said.
“A restored vintage 1927 Dennis fire engine will be another highlight at Wangi Wangi.
“And we’ll have home fire safety tips where, this year, we’re focusing on fire prevention in the kitchen, as almost half of all house fires start in that area.”
Stations will have fire fighting DVDs to watch, tips on replacing their outdated smoke alarms with the latest 10-year lithium-powered smoke alarms, and displays of firefighter uniforms from today and yesteryear.
Mr Woods said children would be made welcome at Morisset.
“We’ll have show bags for kids with games and educational material inside,” he said.
“We also have a Facebook page where members of the public can stay in touch with the fire brigade and also check out what jobs we have been to in the local area.”
