ARTWORKS created by local school children will adorn a mural at Toronto Swim Centre as well as shirts worn by Macquarie Shores Swimming Club members.
The artworks are the culmination of a recent workshop at Nikinpa Aboriginal Centre led by award-winning local Aboriginal artist Saretta Fielding.
Funded through Multicultural NSW, the program was aimed at sharing culture through Aboriginal art around the theme: Celebrating Aboriginal Peoples’ Connection to Lake Macquarie.
“During the workshop, students put into practise their gained knowledge of storytelling through Aboriginal symbolism, painting their own artwork story around the Lake Macquarie theme,” Ms Fielding said.
It will be displayed as part of a mural created by Ms Fielding for use on ‘Welcome to Country’ signage at the pool, which will be launched on Wednesday, July 5, at 11am, as part of NAIDOC Week.
