The season began with an open day and the opening of the new Westlakes clubhouse by Lake Macquarie mayor Councillor Kay Fraser.
The new clubhouse, at Wangi Wangi, comprises a canteen, first-aid room, an upstairs meeting space and an umpire’s room.
The much-anticipated opening of the clubhouse was met with great approval, particularly from those dedicated volunteers who work in the canteen each week.
One parent commented: “We can now watch the games when we are in the canteen”. Another was impressed that the parents no longer tripped over each other when serving customers.
The new clubhouse deserved a new façade so signage was also installed to fly the club colours with pride.
Club president Pamella Burt said she felt proud every time she drove past the clubhouse and saw the signs from the road.
“Now everyone knows who we are,” she said.
The march past was spectacular with Bolton Point, Fennel Bay, Joeys Netball, Wangi Arcadia and Morisset all showing excellent team spirit and sportsmanship, however Rathmines were the victors with some very cute little supporters stealing the show.
After the trophy presentation, games began with a round-robin competition.
Players, committee and families of Westlakes district netball and its affiliated clubs had a fantastic day to begin ther 2017 season and all look forward to the fun, friendship and fitness that comes with playing this fantastic sport.
