Billed as Australia’s showgirls of opera, The 7 Sopranos – all graduates of Australia’s finest conservatories, winners of prestigious singing competitions, and solo artists from major opera companies and orchestras – bring a sense of fun and colour to their operatic renditions.
And a sense of Hollywood glamour, too, especially in their new show Songs from Stage and Screen.
The girls are touring the show which arrives at The Art House, in Wyong, on Wednesday, April 5.
Audiences are invited to “put on your 1950s best, curl your hair, and shine your vintage car” and get to the gig.
“The show draws upon classic songs such as – I Got Rhythm, Big Spender and Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend – in a deliciously cheeky performance celebrating sisterhood, the power of transformation, and flirtatious fluttering petticoats,” a spokesperson for The 7 Sopranos said.
“The show is a triumph of beautifully blended harmonies, incredible musicianship and spine‐tingling arrangements from acclaimed composers such as Rogers and Hammerstein, and Gershwin and Mancini.”
Think Doris Day, Marilyn Monroe and Rita Hayworth and take a trip back into a world of nylons, killer heels and eye-popping lipstick.
“From Dubai to Dubbo, The 7 Sopranos have clocked up hundreds of appearances across the globe,” their spokesperson said.
“Reaching out to a new audience of music lovers, they successfully straddle the divide between opera and mainstream music, creating their own unique fusion of faithful classical traditions and techniques meshed with contemporary music, enchanting new and enthusiastic audiences across the globe.”
Songs from Stage and Screen will be performed at 7.30pm.
- Tickets range in price from $25 to $49, and are availanble from The Art House on 4335 1485 or online at thearthousewyong.com.au
Diary of a Wombat
THE first ever stage adaptation of the children’s story, Diary of a Wombat, is touring Australia, and will be performed at The Art House, Wyong, on Saturday, April 1.
The Monkey Baa Theatre Company production will be staged at 2pm.
It features puppetry, a live cello score, and a brilliant set design in Monkey Baa’s signature style.
Audiences aged three and older will meet Mothball, the naughtiest wombat in Australia. Bored with her daily routine, Mothball goes in search of shelter and food, creating chaos in the lives of the humans around her.
Doormats, bins and washing lines are no match for this mischievous marsupial. Between a packed schedule of scratching, sleeping and eating, Mothball discovers that with a bit of persistence humans are quite easily trained.
Following its Sydney premiere, Diary of a Wombat is touring 59 venues across Australia.
Tickets for the performance at Wyong cost $25 for adults, $20 for children, and $75 for a family of four.
