A skiff under construction at Rathmines attracted plenty of public interest at the annual Classic Boatfest on Sunday.

Lake Macquarie Classic Boat Association president Bill Coote said members were making good progress on construction of the St Ayles Skiff.
“It’s a 22-foot skiff and is a four-person rowboat with a cox and rudder,” Mr Coote said.
“Our target is to have it finished by this time next year, so that we can row it around the lake as part of the Heaven Can Wait regatta.
“It’ll take us a week, but we’ll do it in relays.”
The group, which is like a Men’s Shed for boaties, has 50 members who meet at the Classic Boatshed at Rathmines on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, from 9am to about 1pm.
“We have two qualified, retired shipwrights in the group – Mike Dunphy and Peter Baron – who are guiding us,” Mr Coote said.
