Toronto Workers players had seen it done many times before – but they were not accustomed to being on the receiving end of Price’s power.
In his first match against his longtime former team-mates, Price has guided his new team, Wests, to a strong position against the third-placed Kookaburras.
Batting first, Toronto made just 182, after being bowled out in the 65th over.
In reply, Wests raced to 1-82 at stumps, with Price unbeaten on 61 after 16 overs.
Earlier, Toronto made a shaky start, losing Andrew Nicolai and Corey Brown without scoring.
Captain Paul Toole (40) and Adrian Chad (18) then set about resurrecting the innings, batting cautiously before Chad flashed at a drive off the bowling of Brad Aldous (4-43) and edged the ball to Price in the cordon.
Down the order, Nathan Hudson (27) and Jeremy Ford (67) gave the Kookaburras something to bowl to.
