The Rathmines Area Sustainable Neighbourhood Group has been formed under the auspices of Lake Macquarie City Council and the Sustainable Neighbourhood Alliance.
The new group will host its launch on Saturday, February 25, opposite Rathmines shops from 10am to 1pm.
“We would like to encourage residents to come along and enjoy a barbecue with your neighbours,” group secretary Carol Wylde-Browne said.
“Learn about responsible pet care and find out how you can encourage native habitat and biodiversity in your backyard and around the Rathmines area.”
A number of projects have already been initiated in Rathmines, so residents will have the opportunity to provide input into future project ideas, such as establishing a community garden and a fenced off-leash dog exercise area.
“Residents can also discover more about community resources such as Landcare and the Awaba Waste Management Facility which encourages recycling and reduces landfill,” Ms Wylde-Browne said.
