The first incident occurred between midnight and 3am on Thursday October 13, when entry was forced to a registered club at Cessnock and money was taken from a number of gaming machines.
The same club was again targeted between 11pm and midnight on Sunday October 16, with money taken from gaming machines.
About 6.40am on Wednesday October 19, a man entered a service station at Bellbird armed with a home-made implement resembling a firearm and threatened the attendant.
The man then left the store without taking any items and was seen entering a waiting vehicle which was driven towards Cessnock.
About 2.20am on Saturday 22 October 2016, and again just after 4am on Wednesday 26 October 2016, entry was forced to a registered club in Bellbird with coins taken from a number of gaming machines.
Police from Central Hunter Local Area Command are investigating all five incidents and believe they are linked.
Detectives are seeking public assistance to identify a man who on each occasion concealed his identity with a hooded jumper.
Investigators have released CCTV images of the man in the hope someone will recognise the clothing worn during a number of the incidents.
Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or use the Crime Stoppers online reporting page: https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au/
