Station should be open 24/7
THE official opening of the MK II Morisset police station, with the normal top brass attending, is nothing new. It seems like only yesterday l witnessed the opening of MK I Morisset police station, where it was announced it would be a 24-hour operation.

Sadly, from what l have gathered MK I was a fizzer, eaten out by white ants, where they had the whole place to themselves to gorge on after dark. Even though the construction of MK II appears to have no structual timber, it too will become a fizzer if it's only an office-hours facility.
Call me old fashioned, but l believe attendance and visability gives assurance and creates deterrence.

Support for ADF personnel
VETERANS’ Health Week (October 22 to 30) is an opportunity for Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel, veterans, war widows, and their families to be pro-active about their physical and mental health.
This year’s Veterans’ Health Week is set to be the biggest ever, with 14,000 members of the veteran and defence communities taking part in more than 300 activities around Australia with a focus on social connection.
Having a strong social network and being connected to a community can help veterans.
The Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) has a range of programs that promote health and wellbeing.
These initiatives provide access and support to current and former members and their families who may be experiencing mental health issues and can be accessed through the DVA website dva.gov.au or the At-Ease portal at-ease.dva.gov.au.
The Veterans and Veterans Families Counselling Service (VVCS) provides free and confidential specialist counselling and support services for ex-service personnel and their families on 1800 011 046.

Why real face time?
I DON’T get it. Why do real estate agents feel the need to put their photo on everything from their business cards to team glamour shots on the advertising for their agency? It's a strange trend. Some of them look pretty rough, too!

Child support overhaul
HAVING gone through three days of hell supporting my husband, I now see a lot of mothers have a lot to answer for in respect of parental alienation. It seems a mother can tell child support she has 100 per cent access of her children, however denies a father who desperately wants to see their children. The system seems to support these mothers by taking their word for it. The system needs an overhaul. As a mother I know the importance of both parents in children's lives. We desperately need support for these dads.

Our homeless disgrace
THE number of homeless people in a country as rich as ours is an absolute bloody disgrace. We have plenty of money to spend on sporting facilities, art galleries, cycle ways, politicians perks, the list is endless. We could end homelessness in a few years by cutting out these luxuries. Or by deducting a dollar or two from every welfare payment and a tiny increase in the income tax rate.

Power boats wonderful
TO the people whingeing about the power boats on Lake Macquarie and calling for them to be banned: Are you serious? It's a wonderful thing having these boats racing.

Like a panda
MEMO To Pauline Hanson. Destroy racism. Be like a panda. He’s black. He’s white. He’s Asian.
