Council is looking to acknowledge people who have made an outstanding contribution to our community and environment at the 2017 Lake Macquarie Australia Day Awards.
I encourage the community to nominate someone they know who has made a significant contribution to the city before nominations close shortly.
The Lake Macquarie Australia Day Awards recognise residents and people who have contributed to our city through volunteering, mission or special event.
There are so many people in our city who volunteer their time or carry out work on behalf of the community, and we want the number and calibre of nominations to reflect that in this year’s awards.
To nominate, visit lakemac.com.au/ausawards.
This Friday, I ask you all to show your support for women’s safety in Lake Macquarie by attending this year’s Reclaim the Night event.
Reclaim the Night is an international movement that encourages women and men to march together to raise awareness of, and put an end to, men’s sexual violence against women.
The community is invited to enjoy a free barbecue, live entertainment, and to march from the Warners Bay rotunda along The Esplanade.
Regional wellbeing
People living in Lake Macquarie are being asked to take part in one of Australia’s largest surveys looking at the wellbeing of regional communities. Carried out by University of Canberra, the Regional Wellbeing Survey helps to support research that improves the wellbeing and quality of life of people living in regional Australia. But, to do this, Lake Macquarie residents need to share their perspectives.
The results council receives from the survey will build on the information it collects in its community satisfaction surveys every two years. All responses are anonymous and prizes are offered.
For more information about the 2016 Regional Wellbeing Surveyor visit regionalwellbeing.org.au.
Complete the survey online before November 30, 2016. If you would prefer a paper version, call 1800 981 499 or emailregionalwellbeing@canberra.edu.au.
