It’s part of a record $219 million in additional needs-based funding across the state, made possible by NSW signing the Gonski agreement.
In 2014, the independent Gonski Review warned too many children were missing out due to a lack of resources.
“These extra resources go directly to our Lake Macquarie schools allowing principals to better meet the unique needs of their students,” Parliamentary Secretary for the Hunter, Scot MacDonald, said.

“Schools in the Lake Macquarie electorate will continue to employ additional teachers with expertise to assist students who need extra support in key learning areas.”
Examples of needs-based funding allocations in the Lake Macquarie electorate include:
- Morisset High School will receive $1,253,615 an increase of $291,931 in 2016;
- Toronto High School will receive $1,350,637 an increase of $416,117 in 2016; and
- Bonnells Bay Public School will receive $499,798 an increase of $206,847.
