Biraban Public School is a small caring school on the western side of Lake Macquarie.
The school has seen great improvement in the last 12 months with recent NAPLAN results and internal results showing above average improvement.
The school is part of the Early Action for Success initiative where a special teacher called an Instructional Leader is employed to develop specific learning programs for student who are not reaching their benchmarks.
An Intervention teacher is also employed to implement these programs.
Classroom teachers, students and parents have been involved in developing learning goals to help students work towards achieving the set benchmarks for Literacy and Numeracy.
Biraban has hosted the western Lake Macquarie Opportunity Class for gifted and talented students in the area for more than 20 years.
The class has a strong focus on providing the skills students will need in the future and uses technology to create learning in new ways that promote creativity and collaboration.
There is strong evidence of Aboriginal culture around the school.
Parents and community believe the school has a “positive culture which is open, respectful and values everyone’s opinion”.
The school has a strong focus on teaching values, with the values of “respect responsibility” and “personal best” underpinning all they do.
