The rangy No 3 was at the crease early (after Nathan Hudson’s dismissal for 4) and maintained a positive approach despite his team slumping to 6-92.
In wicket-keeper Jeremy Ford (71) he found a like-minded partner, and the pair combined to pile on 123 for the seventh wicket and turn the tide. Brown and fast bowler Corey Piccirillo (38) then added 81 for the ninth wicket to strengthen the home team’s grip.
Toronto declared at 9-332 and struck a further late blow to have Wallsend at 1-12.
Brown, 21, had started the season in second grade and was called into the top grade on Thursday night to replace Peter McCredie.
He faced 262 deliveries and spent 307 minutes at the wicket to compile his maiden first grade century.
Brown is a popular figure at Toronto, is the club registrar, and runs two junior programs.
