City’s ‘Legoland’ threat
IT is pleasing to read in the Lakes Mail (“How West was won”, September 22) that councillors are “prepared to meet with them [ratepayers]” and to “act on their concerns”, and that council being in the midst of a 10-year planning cycle will be subject to review and community consultation every 12 months.

I am new to Lake Macquarie having built at Watagan Park. Changes to planning regulations adopted in 2014 permit dual occupancies with double-storey constructions to be erected on blocks of land designed for single occupancy.
The effect is de facto subdivision of lot sizes less than 800 square metres to per-dwelling lots of 370 square metres.
This is precisely the inferior standard of subdivision in Sydney’s west (Ropes Crossing, Jordan Springs and Rouse Hill) which produce neighbourhoods resembling giant Legoland development.
I would recomment that council revisit the 2014 decision as it appears they were unaware of the consequences of what they voted for.
